Chiesa della Purificazione della Beata Vergine Maria

Chiesa

In Loreggia, a church dedicated to the Virgin was established in 1190 but the present building was built between 1625 and 1777. During these long works, the fifteenth century church was “turned” (the entrance was brought to the east part), enlarged and decorated. The apse was particularly enriched with delicate and elaborate stucco and embellished with the major great altar with a tabernacle in the form of a temple. The church’s interior hosts interesting works of art: - three paintings attributed to the Bassano family members (second half of the sixteenth century); - a wooden statue of the Virgin and Child, dating back to the fifteenth century; - the five Joyful Mysteries (The Holy Rosary), on the walls of the nave and realized in the early twentieth century by a painter from Treviso, Antonio Beni, the only example of Art Nouveau in the area.
